What a character! This wonderfully expressive little vintage wooden man/troll is hand carved with an oversized nose, large ears, deep-set eyes, a mischievious open mouth and wonderfully chunky, primative primitive throughout.
The underside is prominently hand-incised "DAM". Thomas Dam (1915-1989), the Danish creator of the famous Dam troll, begin by hand carving wooden figures before his trolls were commercially produced. Comparable vintage wooden figurines attributed to Thomas Dam are also known with an incised DAM signature.
Please note: While the signature, subject patter and carving style make a Thomas Dam attribution intriguing, we have not independently authenticated this piece as the work of Thomas Dam, and it is being offered as a signed vintage Scadinavian folk-art carving.
