Consignment at Bee Balm Boutique – FAQ

Bee Balm Boutique is a women’s clothing, vintage, and gift consignment shop located in downtown Harmony, Minnesota. We work with local consigners from Harmony, Fillmore County, and throughout southeast Minnesota to offer quality clothing consignment, vintage consignment, antiques, collectibles, and handcrafted goods.

To keep things clear and fair, we now offer three distinct consignment contracts, based on the type of items you’re bringing in. Below is a streamlined overview to help you understand how consignment works at Bee Balm Boutique.

What types of consignment do you accept?

We currently offer contracts for:

  • Clothing Consignment (women’s apparel & accessories)

  • Vintage, Antiques & Collectibles Consignment (home décor, household items, vintage & antique finds)

  • Crafter / Maker Consignment (handcrafted items by local artists & makers)

Each category has different timelines, pricing structures, and expectations, outlined below.

Clothing Consignment

Best for: Women’s clothing and accessories that fit our current season, style, and customer demand.

Bee Balm Boutique is known as a destination for women’s clothing consignment in Harmony, MN, featuring curated, on-trend pieces at approachable price points.

  • Consignment split: 60/40 (40% to the consigner)

  • Consignment period: 90 days

  • Markdown schedule: Items are typically discounted after 60 days

  • Pricing: Set by Bee Balm Boutique (pricing requests may be shared at your appointment)

  • Sales & promotions: Items may be included in storewide sales or seasonal promotions

Due to the labor involved in reviewing, tagging, photographing, displaying, and marketing clothing items, consigners must commit to leaving items for the full consignment period.

Unclaimed items must be picked up within two weeks of the end of the cycle. Items not picked up between days 90–104 become store property.

Vintage, Antiques & Collectibles Consignment

Best for: Household items, décor, antiques, vintage goods, and collectibles.

We regularly accept vintage and antique consignment in Harmony, Minnesota, with a focus on unique, well-made, and visually interesting pieces that fit our shop and available space.

What we accept

  • Vintage and antique décor

  • Select glassware

  • Small to medium furniture pieces

  • Collectibles and curated household items

  • Interesting, well-made, and unique pieces that align with our shop’s aesthetic

Items must be clean, stable, and safe for retail display. Acceptance is based on condition, size, marketability, and available space.

👉 For glassware, furniture, or larger items, we strongly recommend sending photos in advance before packing or transporting items. This helps determine fit and prevents unnecessary hauling of fragile pieces.

Final acceptance decisions are made in-store and may vary based on current inventory needs and available floor space.

Contract details

  • Consignment split: 60/40 (40% to the consigner)

  • Consignment period: 6 months

  • Price adjustments: After 2 months, Bee Balm Boutique may reduce prices at our discretion

  • Pricing: Set by Bee Balm Boutique (pricing requests may be shared at your appointment)

  • Sales & promotions: Items may be included in storewide sales events

Due to the labor involved in tagging, displaying, photographing, and marketing items, consigners must commit to leaving items for the full consignment period.

Unclaimed items must be picked up within two weeks after the cycle ends. Items not claimed between days 180–194 become store property.

Select items may also be displayed in our Stardust Retro Revival antique mall booth in Harmony at no additional fee. All inventory displayed at the antique mall is managed exclusively by Bee Balm Boutique staff; consigners may not remove, adjust, reprice, or retrieve items directly from the antique mall.

Crafter / Maker Consignment (Handcrafted Items)

Best for: Handmade items created by local artists, makers, and growers.

Bee Balm Boutique proudly supports local makers and handcrafted goods in southeast Minnesota, offering a curated space for thoughtfully made products.

  • Consignment split: 40/60 (60% to the crafter)

  • Consignment period: Agreed upon in advance

  • Pricing: Set collaboratively with the maker

  • Markdowns: Not subject to standard markdown schedules

  • Sales & promotions: May be included in storewide events unless opted out in writing

Crafters commit to leaving items for the agreed-upon period. This category offers more flexibility than traditional retail consignment.

How do I get paid?

All Bee Balm Boutique consigners manage their own payout requests.

  • Payment is requested by the consigner (balances do not auto-pay)

  • Options include:

    • Requesting a check (mailed checks incur a $1 mailing fee), or

    • Using your balance as store credit

  • Store credit bonus: Spend your balance in store and receive an extra 10% on the items you sold

Your consignment balance remains securely on your account until you request payment.

What about damage, theft, or loss?

All consigned items are left at the consigner’s risk. Bee Balm Boutique takes every reasonable precaution to protect inventory but cannot be responsible for damage or theft.

Do you remind consigners when contracts end?

Due to the volume of inventory we manage, we are not able to contact consigners when a consignment cycle ends. Consigners are responsible for tracking dates and arranging pickup if desired.

How do I get started with consignment?

Consignment is by appointment. All items must be pre-sorted, clean, and ready for review before your appointment. We are not able to sort through unsorted bags, bins, or boxes, or accept ‘clean out’ lots straight from closets, cupboards, or storage areas. Contract terms are reviewed and signed at drop-off.

If you’re unsure which consignment contract applies to your items, we’re happy to guide you during your appointment.
